The record

Every job on this page was signed off by somebody.

Significant federal and state contract experience is the sentence EGL uses about itself. Here is what sits behind it, with the body that issued each contract named beside the work.

White Sands Missile Range

A new parking lot at building 1836, with striping, parking spaces and signs. A 500 x 500 concrete pad for refuse services. Tank crossing vactor truck services. Concrete sidewalks, road and parking lot signs.

TXDOT

Crack seal repair. Highway surface work for the state department of transportation.

Allied States Cooperative

Member and contract holder. Cooperative purchasing is how public agencies buy construction without running a fresh procurement every time.

Capital Steel

Certified dealer. Certified metal building dealers and installers, so a prefabricated building is supplied and erected by the same company that pours its slab.

Future 15 Awards, 2012

Named among the region’s upcoming construction companies. The award is dated 2012, and the company has gone on working the same three counties since.

Measured

A local, family owned company, working the same three counties since 2002.

Principals bring over 30 years in the construction industry. The corporation has been trading since 2002 and works El Paso, Hudspeth and Brewster counties from 5417 Dailey Ave.

What we do

Seven trades, one contractor, one number to call.

Concrete, metal buildings, drywall, framing, earthwork, refuse collection and metal recycling are all self performed. That is the whole reason a schedule holds: the crew on your site works for the company that signed your contract. Walk-ins and same-day appointments are available, house calls are available, and emergency services are available.

A large formed square concrete pad on a desert site, rebar mat tied across it, timber edge forms and stakes around the perimeter, orange barriers along the road beyond.

On the pad

The day before a pour is the day that decides the slab.

Grading, forms, mat and traffic control are all in place before a truck is ever called. On a refuse pad carrying loaded containers, everything that keeps it from cracking is buried by the time anyone sees it.

What is in that photograph

Four things, and every one of them is finished before the concrete arrives.

Rebar mat

Tied before anything is poured. The mat is what stops a pad cracking under load. On a refuse pad carrying loaded containers, this is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether the slab lasts.

Edge form

Timber forms and stakes. Forms set the line and the depth. A 500 x 500 pad is only square because the forms were square first.

Subgrade

Compacted caliche. El Paso sits on caliche. Grading and compaction happen before the forms go in, and earthwork is one of the trades we self perform.

Drum line

Traffic control. Channelising drums and signage are part of the contract on road and parking lot work, not an afterthought. Striping and signs are on the same scope.

How it runs

Free estimate first. Always.

Every service EGL offers is quoted free. Call the yard, describe the site, and somebody who has priced this work before will tell you what it takes.

Estimate

Free, on every service. Walk-ins and same-day appointments are available. For sweeping and landscaping we make house calls, so the estimate happens at the property rather than over a description of it.

Scope

Self performed wherever possible. Concrete, metal buildings, drywall, framing, earthwork, refuse collection and metal recycling are ours. Fewer subcontractors is fewer handoffs, and handoffs are where schedules go.

On site

Safety regulations, implemented not just promised. EGL states its aim as a first rate place of employment, effective safety regulations and ethical business practices. On a federal installation that is the price of being allowed through the gate at all.

Turnaround

One to two days on most sweeping work. Emergency services are available for the jobs that cannot wait for a schedule.

In their own words

What EGL says it is trying to be.

We strive to maintain a long-term relationship with you by providing a first-rate place of employment, promote and implement effective safety regulations, maintain ethical business practices, and consistently keep a solid financial company.

That is EGL’s own statement, unedited. It is an unusual thing for a contractor to lead with employment and solvency rather than speed, and on public work it is the right instinct: an agency is buying a company that will still be trading when the warranty is called.
